Why updates are required on shared hosting

Websites hosted on shared hosting do not operate in isolation. When WordPress core files, plugins, or themes fall behind on updates, they can introduce security and stability risks that affect not only the individual site but also other sites sharing the same hosting environment.

For this reason, Asporea Digital requires that websites on shared hosting are maintained with regular updates as part of responsible hosting and good governance.

Managed Updates for WordPress Sites on Shared Hosting

To remain hosted on shared hosting with Asporea Digital, websites must be kept reasonably up to date. This includes applying WordPress core updates, plugin updates, and theme updates on a regular basis and ensuring the site remains compatible with the hosting environment.

How this requirement is met is up to the website owner.

Your options for meeting this maintenance requirement

Option 1: You manage updates yourself

Some clients prefer to manage updates independently.

This option is suitable if you are comfortable applying WordPress core updates, updating plugins and themes, and checking site functionality after updates are completed.

Updates should be carried out regularly, at least monthly, and the site must remain secure, stable, and compatible with the hosting environment. Where issues arise due to missed, delayed, or incompatible updates, remediation work may be required and will be billed separately.

Option 2: Managed Updates by Asporea Digital

Managed Updates is the option where Asporea Digital takes responsibility for keeping your site technically up to date on shared hosting.

This is an ongoing service designed for clients who prefer not to manage updates themselves and want updates handled consistently and carefully.

Pricing

Managed Updates is charged at $149 per month.

The monthly fee reflects the time, oversight, and responsibility involved in monitoring and applying updates safely on shared hosting. Managed Updates is billed monthly and can be cancelled with notice in line with Asporea Digital’s hosting terms.

If sites are not maintained

Where updates are not managed by the website owner or covered under Managed Updates, issues may arise over time due to outdated or incompatible software.

In these situations, Asporea Digital may need to perform remediation or corrective work on a time and materials basis. This approach is less predictable and typically higher risk and cost than maintaining updates on an ongoing basis.
